چکیده

Four commercially available membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems were operated at the pilot scale, to investigate performance during the reclamation of municipal wastewater. The MBR performance was evaluated under a variety of operating conditions, including two types of feed wastewater (raw and advanced primary effluent), hydraulic retention times (HRTs) ranging from 2 to 6 hours, and permeate fluxes between 20 and 41 lmh. Test results showed that MBR systems were capable of operating on advanced primary effluent, despite the possible presence of coagulant and/or polymer residual, with minimal membrane fouling. Membrane performance data generated during this study was also used to quantify the relationship between permeate flux and membrane fouling. Cleaning intervals at various flux conditions were estimated as follows: 69 days at 20 lmh, 58 days at 25 lmh, and 30 days for operation between 31 and 41 lmh. It was also demonstrated that the MBR process could be optimized to operate with minimal fouling under high hydraulic (flux = 37 lmh) and organic loading (HRT = 2 hours and food-to-microorganism ratio = 0.33 g COD/g VSS x d) conditions. Water quality monitoring conducted throughout the study showed that each MBR system consistently produced an oxidized (5-day biochemical oxygen demand < 2 mg/L) and nitrified (ammonia < 1 mg-N/L) effluent low in particulate matter (turbidity < 0.1 NTU), under all conditions tested.

Municipal Wastewater Treatment Using a Hollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor

A bioreactor equipped with hollow fiber microfiltration membranes was applied for wastewater treatment. Removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) was investigated. The experimental setup consisted of influent and effluent tanks, and membrane modules using Polyvinyl Di–Fluoride (PVDF) hollow fibers. The operation program included suction and backwash...

Submerged membrane bioreactor system for municipal wastewater treatment process: An overview

The submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR) is a promising technology for wastewater treatment and water reclamation. This paper provides an overview of wastewater treatment in a submerged membrane bioreactor process with a special focus on municipal wastewater systems. SMBRs predict more than 95% organic removal with relative short hydraulic retention times (HRTs) of 1-8 h and NH3 removal of more...

The Study of Organic Removal Efficiency and Membrane Fouling in a Submerged Membrane Bioreactor Treating Vegetable Oil Wastewater

The characterizations of vegetable oil wastewater (VOW) are unpleasant odor, dark color, and high organic contents, including large amounts of oil and grease (O&G), chemical oxygen demand (COD), fatty acids and lipids. Therefore, VOWs should be treated efficiently to avoid the environment pollution. The aim of present study was the investigation of VOW biological treatment using membrane biorea...

Ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor for urban wastewater reclamation

A 162-day pilot-scale operation for reclamation of urban wastewater was studied by using an ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor (UMBR). Performance of the UMBR was investigated with a sludge retention time (SRT) of 5, 15, and 30 days, a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 5 h, and membrane flux between 75 and 150 l m−2 h−1, respectively. It was observed that the highest sludge concentration in th...
